TEA — techno-economic analysis

What it does

Performance is only half the story. TEA prices every candidate from raw material composition, equipment sizing, CapEx/OpEx factors and end-of-life & recycling economics, folding them into one net-value score.

The five costing modules

  • Raw materials — composition × commodity prices.
  • Equipment sizing — using the six-tenths power-law rule (cost ∝ (size / base_size)^0.6), matching standard chemical-industry practice.
  • CapEx — capital expenditure estimates.
  • OpEx — operating expenditure: utilities, labor, maintenance.
  • Recycling & end-of-life value — end-of-life credit for material recovery.

How to use it

  • Standalone: enter or load a candidate set, price it, read the cost breakdown.
  • In the pipeline: run the cost-aware optimizer so candidates are ranked by net value alongside performance, stability and selectivity — the loop every scale-up decision needs.

Reading the output

Each candidate reports cost per unit, breakdown by module, and the net-value score. Use the breakdown to see whether a candidate is expensive because of raw materials (chemistry problem) or equipment (scale problem) — they have very different remedies.
