Setting Objectives and Weights

OptimizationTOPSIS

Translate "I want a high-performing material" into objectives, weights and constraints the optimizer understands.

Steps

Follow along

Each step is something you can do in the platform right now.

01

Step 1

Open Optimization and select your trained predictor or dataset.

02

Step 2

Add two objectives: maximize conversion, minimize raw-material cost.

03

Step 3

Set the weights — equal to start, then skew toward conversion to see the front shift.

04

Step 4

Add a composition constraint: the metal columns must sum to 100%.

05

Step 5

Add per-feature bounds that match your actual equipment limits.

06

Step 6

Run the search and compare the front under different weight settings.

Notes

Pro tips

What experienced users wish they knew the first time.

Weights express your trade-off; TOPSIS does the ranking, so changing weights changes the order, not the front.
With 2+ objectives, Evolutionary Search usually covers the front better than Adaptive Search.
